Topp & Dubio is a conceptual multidisciplinary artist duo based in The Hague in The Netherlands.
‘Performance, video, publications, sculptures and site-specific installations. The artist practice Topp & Dubio (Kharkiv, 1995) draws on various disciplines, but their work is difficult to categorise. From spontaneous reactions to current events to slowly developing projects that intervene in everyday reality in sometimes inimitable ways. Their work might be better described as “mind maps” with a focus on the systems that trap our thinking, the assumptions we use to give meaning to the things we do.
Their artistic practice is a way for them to deal with everything they did not choose themselves, resulting in a poetic yet critical reflection on the often incomprehensible logic of society. Topp & Dubio are fascinated by (hidden) structures in which hierarchy, autonomy, importance and urgency are being examined. By posing uncomfortable questions and looking at things with an open poetic gaze, they try to get a grip on the unfathomable. In their work, they create a parallel reality that competes with it.
Topp & Dubio do public interventions, site-specific installations, film, text-based works, audience-interaction, books and all sorts of (audiovisual) documentation. Topp & Dubio works are temporary by nature, are never replicated and only subsist in memory and documentation.
Topp & Dubio have shown their work in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, United States, Canada, Romania, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
